Durian is just one of the many fruits that are abundant in the city. Mangosteen, Lanzones, Marang and Pomelo are just so irresistible like any other fruits in the City. Pick some fresh durian now and pair it with a can of cola.  Make sure to limit your serving :-)

4. Witnessing the Kadayawan Festival

When you get the chance to visit Davao in August, make sure it's close to Kadayawan Festival. The festival showcases not only the local produce but the abundance of culture, talents and harmony of its people.

Lotus Court showcases Manila Hotel’s Mabuhay Palace Gastronomy

THIS month of April, Manila Hotel's chefs head south for Marco Polo Davao. The Davao hotel's Cantonese restaurant, Lotus Court, hosts two Manila Hotel chefs for the better part of the summer.

"From April 6 to May 15, 2011, Chef Wenceslao Gacutan and Executive Chinese Sous Chef Josephine (Joie) Yu Tanganco Candelaria will be concocting Mabuhay Palace original creations from the freshest ingredients in Davao," Marco Polo Davao Food and Beverage manager Bernard Bulaong said.

Chef Joie is a trilingual chef who regards excellence as her touchstone. She doffs her toque to her Executive Chef Konrad Walter, a Swiss national whose extensive experience spans his native land as well as Scotland, Bahrain, Macau, and the Philippines.

Executive Chef Konrad inspired her to think outside of the box and create what have become signature dishes of Mabuhay Palace, Manila Hotel's highly acclaimed Cantonese restaurant.

"Chef Joie's take on Long Life Prawns, vegetarian Peking duck, and salted egg ice cream took Manila by storm last month," Bulaong said.

These innovative dishes, unique to Mabuhay Palace, will be served in Lotus Court beginning 6 April. On offer as well are timeless classics, such as seafood and chicken, pork and beef dishes, with flavors both sensuous and appealing. Other Cantonese delights shall be the domain of Chef Wenceslao Gacutan whose talents in this area are nothing short of legendary.

Sample the extraordinary specialties of Chef Joie and Chef Wenceslao, which you can opt for in special a la carte menus or in sumptuous buffets at Lotus Court. Sunday lunch buffet shall be at P850.00 net per person. Payday dinner buffet with Mabuhay Palace menu highlights will be at P600 net per person on 15 and 30 April and on 15 May.

"This summer, stop by Marco Polo Davao's Lotus Court, to experience Mabuhay Palace's celebrated Cantonese cuisine and know why Chef Joie is the toast of the town," Bulaong concluded.

DAVAO PLANS NEW TOURISM BRAND

DAVAO CITY -- The local government will unveil within this month a new brand for the city to kick-start its tourism campaign, an official said in a recent interview.

City tourism officer Jason C. Magnaye said Davao City seems to be a "Jack of all trades, master of none" because it lacks a unique offering for tourists; unlike Camarines Sur, for example, which people readily identify With wakeboarding, and Siargao in Surigao del Norte which tourists associate with surfing.

"So many tourism officers get confused as to where to position Davao City. We’re putting everything on the table on how to sum it all up," Mr. Magnaye said.

In recent consultations, prospective Davao brands were presented to tourism industry players, businessmen and academe and these were short-listed to three for the approval of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The city’s chief executive, Mr. Magnaye said, has already chosen the final Davao logo and slogan that will be unveiled in time for the summer tourism campaign.

Part of the campaign is to standardize the services and facilities of hotels, inns, and restaurants in the city, which have registered with the City Tourism Office as a prerequisite for applying a permit from the business bureau.

He said the Department of Tourism’s (DoT) regional office has accredited only 52 out of the 120 hotels and other accommodations in the city, thus enforcement of standards is proving to be difficult.

Davao City has an average of 370,000 visitors annually, or more than half the 650,000 tourists in the region. Mr. Magnaye said the actual figure may be more since only accredited accommodations can be tracked by the DoT.

The city government is looking to come up with a system to accurately determine the number and profile of visitors so it can tweak offerings to fit the market.

Tourism regional director Arturo P. Boncato, Jr. said Davao City seems to be strong in meetings, conventions and exhibitions market because of the diversity of activities and attractions. -- JBE

Yoga at South Studio Davao

Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga is a series of yoga poses done in a heated room. The room is usually maintained at a temperature of roughly 38 degrees Celsius. A vigorous yoga session at this temperature promotes profuse sweating which rids the body of toxins. It also makes the body very warm, and therefore more flexible.

Asthanga Yoga

Asthanga Yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. Often called Power Yoga, this method focuses on physical and mental strength. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

Try some Yoga now South Studio Davao.

South Studio is a large and spacious studio, outfitted with professional and versatile equipment. Change rooms, lockers, towels, showers (with soap & conditioner), and a lounge with Wi-Fi connection available for your comfort and convenience.
